SPENCER -- "It's always nice to shake off those nerves of the first race of the year," said Cherokee first-year cross country coach matt Hoskinson. "We ran up in Spencer Tuesday night and saw a good variety of competition."
The Cherokee Washington High girls were led by Hanna Benningsdorf with a time of 19:50, followed by Breeanna DeVos in 20:05, Danni Roethler 21:22, Sydney Hart 21:27, Abby Lubeck 25:03 and Amber Lundquist 25:09.
No place finishes were made available.
"Our girls ran hard and seem to be developing some pack running," explained Hoskinson "We look forward to closing this spread and moving the pack closer to the front. It was a good first effort and will spring board us into our next meet"
The Cherokee boys were led by Jaden Lux, who posted a time of 18:41, good for 21st place.
"Jaden really put in an exciting first effort and we look forward to how this will snowball into the rest of the season. I'm sure Jaden looks forward to having a few hungry teammates join him in next week's meet.
"Overall, I'm very proud and excited to see where team One will take us this year. We can really tell those who put in the homework over the summer and it looks like the rest of the group is catching up fast."
The Cherokee cross country teams run again Tuesday at Spirit Lake at Brooks Golf Course.
