Morningside senior Joel Nixon passed for 163 yards and three touchdowns in his first collegiate start at quarterback. Nixon, a two-year starter at wide receiver who was academically ineligible last season, has made the switch to quarterback, where he starred in high school.
Nixon completed 15 of 24 passes, hooking up twice with former Cherokee prep Kyle Schuck for short touchdowns and also had another TD pass to Tyler Sinsabaugh.
Morningside broke the game open with a 21-point second quarter, taking a 28-0 halftime cushion.
The Mustangs will now clash with Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Northwestern here in a 7 p.m. game on Saturday in a game that could wind up going a long way toward deciding the eventual conference champ.
