SCHALLER - East Sac County defeated the host school, the number 4-ranked Ridge View Raptors, 2-0 in the finals of the Ridge View Tournament here on Saturday.
Ridge View was the winner of Pool A, defeating Ar-We-Va, 2-1; Westwood, 2-0; and Woodbury Central, 2-0, to advance to the Semi-finals, where they defeated Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove, 2-0 to advance to the finals.
East Sac won Pool B, defeating OA-BCIG, 2-0; Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, 2-1; and West Monona, 2-0; and beat Ar-We-CVa, 2-0 in the Semi-finals.
For the day, Ridge View was led in kills by Gretchen Kistenmacher with 33 and Kaitlynn Madsen with 23; Nicole Snyder had 76 assists and Emily Forristal 24; Dana Hustedt led in digs with 41, while Kistenmacher had 40, Anna Davis 31 and Ashlynn Blenner 29. Anna Davis had eight ace serves and Kistenmacher had six.
A disappointed Ridge View Coach Scott Mitchell felt his team "gave up some big runs today and didn't finish matches. We just weren't clicking throughout the day. I am not sure we were mentally focused enough."
Mitchell did acknowledge that "East Sac has a very good team," and also expressed concern about Ridge View's leading setter, Nicole Snyder, who injured her ankle in the semi-finals Saturday. "Hopefully, it's not too bad," said the veteran coach.
Ridge View's season record is now at 6-1.
