Friday, September 7, 2012

BRUNSVILLE - In Tuesday's Gary Meyer Invitational Cross Country Meet at Brunsville, the Cherokee girls team, according to Coach Matt Hoskinson, "turned in a fine performance, working in pairs to maneuver through the race."

The team was led by Breeana DeVos, whose time of 19:50 earned her a 33rd place finish. Hanna Bennigsdorf ran a 20:00 for 35th; Danni Roethler turned in a time of 21:35 for 45th; Sydney Hart, running on her birthday, was 48th, in a time of 21:47; Amber Lundquist was 64th, with a time of 23:58; and Abby Lubeck's time of 24:51 earned her 70th place.

"Our girls keep dropping their team score," said a pleased Coach Hoskinson, "which means we are moving up in the races. This is a very hilly meet and the temperatures were hot again."

On the boys side, Cherokee put two runners in the top 10, with Eamon Adamson finishing 8th with a time of 18:42, followed closely by Jaden Lux in 18:47 and 10th place. Andy Pitts turned in a nice 20:16 performance for 37th place and Brendan Nelson came in at 25:58 in 80th place.

This was the first meet that the Junior High got to run in, and for most runners it was their first race ever. Cherokee's effort was led by Max DeVos, who earned a 3rd place medal with his time of 11:07. Sam Conley turned in a time of13:56, good for 18th; Taylor Bute ran a 18:44 for 38th; McKayla Benson was 41st in a time of 20:54, and Merick Harrison's 21:29 was good for 42nd.

Said Coach Hoskinson, "We now know what we have, and where we can improve for the next meet. I was very happy with our performance Tuesday night and I look forward to seeing what we can do in Holstein on Saturday."
