LE MARS - Cherokee artist Connie Hankens has accepted the position of Artist in Residence for the coming year at the Le Mars Arts Center.
Hankens lives in Cherokee and will be in Le Mars on Tuesdays to teach an after-school art class called "Art with Nature" for children in grades 2-4. She also will be an invited demonstrator at Arts Center activities throughout the year, and is a member of the Le Mars artists group, Le Arts.
Hankens will greet the public during open studio hours on Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m., where artists of any ability and medium can meet at the Arts center, work on their projects, or listen and learn as Hankens works on hers.
A reception was held last week for Hankens and her work will be displayed in the North Gallery this month.
Hankens works with stained glass embellished paintings and sculptures and her works have sold at art galleries and art fairs. She also has served as a reporter/photographer correspondent for Cherokee and Sioux City Journal newspapers.
Being "retired," she has accepted the Arts Center position and also works part time as a secretary for Western Iowa Tech Community College in Cherokee.
