SIBLEY - Alta-Aurelia won its first game of the football season here on Friday when they took a 14-0 decision over host Sibley-Ocheyedan. The game was also the Warriors' first District contest of the year, so the win gives them a 1-0 mark in the District.

The Warriors' offensive attack was all on the ground Friday, as quarterback Joe Napierala failed to complete any of his seven pass attempts. None of his attempts were intercepted.

Manny Murillo led the Warriors on the ground with 122 yards on 22 rushing attempts, including a 10-yard touchdown run. Garrett VanHouten gained 91 yards on 22 attempts. Napierala scored the other Warrior TD on an 8-yard run, and Mitchel McDonald scored on a 2-point conversion run.

On defense, VanHouten was in on 10 tackles, while sophomore Conner Napierala was in on eight stops, including a sack. Spencer Bezoni also had a sack for the Warrior defense, along with a fumble recovery, and Fidel DeLao also recovered one fumble for Alta-Aurelia.

The Warriors travel to Moville on Friday for a District match-up with highly- regarded Woodbury Central (2-1, 0-1 in District). The Wildcats' lone loss was at rated Akron-Westfield (3-0).
