Eagles batter Remsen St. Mary's, 56-14

MARCUS - The talented Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn football team slammed visiting Remsen St. Mary's 56-14 in a neighborhood 8-player match-up here Friday night.

Andrew Hoefling scored three touchdowns to pace the winners, including a thrilling 65-yard kick-off return and two TD passes from quarterback Tanner Utesch, one a beauteous play that covered 55 yards.

The efficient Utesch finished 9-11 passing for 189 yards and three TDs, the third one a 20-yard hook-up with Isaiah Petersen.

Four Eagle running backs got into the fray by scoring rushing TDs in the onslaught, with Lee Hueser tallying from five yards, Connor Holmes from nine, Josh Kach from seven, and Jake Meehan from eight.

All told, MMC rushed 32 times for 175 yards, with Hoefling leading the way with nine totes for 65 yards, Holmes seven carries for 35, Kach fice for 28, and Meehan four for 26. Hoefling also grabbed four passes for 93 yards and two TDs to lead that category.

The out-manned Hawks got both their TDs from Elliott Conover, who scored on a one-yard run, and caught a 50-yard TD pass from QB Tyler Delperdang, who finished completing 13-20 passes for 236 yards and one TD.

RSM rushed 14 times for 243 yards, with Nathan Roder carrying the ball nine times for 105 yards, and Conover three times for 90 yards, counting that 50-yard TD scamper.

Defensively, Nathan Zubrod and Nate Rassel led MMC with eight tackles apiece, followed by Utesch, Tyler Prunty, Jarod Gross, and Dylan Spieler with six each, and Meehan, Erik Nelson, and Justin Theisen five each. Spieler also had a fumble recovery.

Michael Nasers led the Hawks on defense with 12 tackles, and Roder tallied 11.

MMC (3-0) hosts a dangerous Remsen-Union team (2-1) Friday night.
