The Cherokee Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Lee Thorson since 1981, is a 60-member orchestra which provides the community with the highest quality musical entertainment while also giving musicians in the area a semi-professional outlet for their talents.

The ever-popular Pops Concert will be the first concert of the 2012-2013 season, on Sunday, October 28. Guest piano soloist James Johnson, a Steinway artist, will play with the Symphony, Johnson has a distinguished international reputation through recordings and performance, and he has been described as having a "spellbinding technique." James is Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

The Young Artists' Concert will be held on March 3, 2013, and will showcase the winners of auditions held earlier. It is always thrilling to hear these young soloists perform.

The season's final concert will be on April 21, 2013, when Laurent Estoppey, an international saxophonist from Switzerland who is now living in Greensboro, North Carolina, will be soloing with the Symphony.

All concerts are held at 4 p.m. on Sundays at the Cherokee Community Center. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Symphony Orchestra should contact Maestro Thorson at 712-732-1497 to arrange an audition.

If you are interested in supporting the Symphony through membership or advertising, please write to P.O. Box 25 in Cherokee, contact Chairman Donna M. Hicks at 712-225-5216, or visit www.cherokeesymphony.org.

See you at the Symphony!
