MOVILLE - Woodbury Central quarterback Matthew Wright threw for seven touchdown passes here Friday night as he totaled 478 yards through the air - one of the highest single-game totals in Iowa history.
Wright's aerial onlaught led his team, now 3-1, to a 48-12 win over District foe Alta-Aurelia, which is now 1-3 overall, and 1-1 in District play.
Alta-Aurelia's Garrett VanHouten rushed the ball 20 times, gaining 101 yards, and he scored one of the Warriors' two touchdowns, The other TD was scored on a 25-yard run by Manny Murillo, who totaled 88 yards in 21 rushing attempts.
A-A Quarterback Joe Napierala completed three of his eight pass attempts for 30 yards and had two of his attempts intercepted.
The 6-5, 205 lb.Wright, a senior,completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts, including three touchdown passes of 70 yards or longer on Woodbury Central's first three plays from scrimmage.
Woodbury Central, now 3-1, takes on 9th-ranked Hinton Friday night in its Homecoming game, while Alta-Aurelia is also having Homecoming and will face #3 - ranked Lawton-Bronson in Alta.
