In support of Iowa's goal to become the healthiest state by 2016, Cherokee will be holding its 2nd Annual Healthiest State Initiative walk on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Gillette Park by the Bacon Aquatic Center.
The event will start off with a free will donation healthy lunch being served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The meal will include a pork burger, apple slices, carrot slices and water. At noon, there will be a 1K group walk along the walking trail at Gillette Park. If you cannot make the walk at noon, feel free to come earlier or later and show your support for the Healthiest State Initiative.
"This is a great opportunity to join the rest of the community for some fun, exercise, and fresh autumn air while helping Iowa to work towards its goal of becoming the Healthiest State," said CRMC Wellness Center Manager Matt Hoskinson.
"Last year we had over 2,000 people participate in the walk and we would like to see a nice turnout again this year. However, even if you can't make the event, I encourage you to find 10 or 15 minutes to walk on your own or with a friend," added Hoskinson.
All proceeds raised from the free will lunch will go towards the community walking and bike trail fund to help develop a continuous trail system throughout the city of Cherokee.
