Rodney E. Maffin, age 78 of Seward, Neb. and formerly Cherokee, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Seward. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert officiated. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation was at 2 p.m. on Thursday, with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rodney Earl Maffin was born Feb. 9, 1934 in Calumet, to Howard Dean and Viola Catherine (Jurgensen) Maffin.

Rodney was a 1952 graduate of Cherokee High School in Cherokee. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ann (Roepke) Maffin on Sept. 10, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Rodney worked as a Security Guard at Wilson Foods in Cherokee for 19 years and also worked for the Standard Oil Bulk Gas Company. In 1986 Rodney and Margaret moved to Seward, Neb. where he was employed in Security with Concordia University for many years. Rodney was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Viola Maffin Davis; his stepfather, Russell Davis; and his wife, Margaret Maffin in 1993.

Rodney is survived by his children and their spouses, Linn and Mike Hayden, Ankeny, Jill and John Dushinske, Sandy, Utah, Tracy Gravenish, Cherokee, Dan Maffin, Seward, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses, Gary and Charlotte Maffin, Twin Falls, Idaho, Charlie and Marilyn Maffin, Earlham, Velda and Burt Faust, Paullina, Doris and Chuck Carlson, Cherokee, Mike and Cynthia Maffin, Spirit Lake; half brother, Robert Maffin, Washington, D.C.; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
