City's 'Start Somewhere' Walk Oct. 3

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

In support of Iowa's goal to become the healthiest state by 2016, Cherokee will be holding its second annual Healthiest State Initiative walk (the 'Start Somewhere' Walk) on Wednesday, October 3rd at Gillette Park by the Bacon Aquatic Center.

The event will start off with a free will donation healthy lunch being served from 11:00 - 1:00. The meal will include a pork burger, apple slices, carrot slices and water. At noon there will be a 1K group walk along the walking trail at Gillette Park. If you cannot make the walk at noon, feel free to come earlier or later and show your support for the Healthiest State Initiative.

All proceeds raised from the free will lunch will go towards the community walking and bike trail fund to help develop a continuous trail system throughout the city of Cherokee.

Everyone who participates is asked to pledge on the Healthiest State Initiative Website. If you don't get around to pledging, don't let that hold you back, simply show up at Gillette Park on Wednesday, October 3.

Governor Branstad has challenged Iowa to become the healthiest state in the nation. The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately- led public initiative intended to inspire Iowans and their communities throughout the state to improve their health and happiness. To achieve our goal, individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public sector will unite in a community-focused effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.

After October 3rd, there will continue to be opportunities in the community to promote healthy lifestyles.

The CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab Dept. is Holding a 5K Fun Run/ Walk, on Saturday, October 13. For more information, or to register, contact CRMC.
