In support of Iowa's goal to become the healthiest state by 2016, Cherokee will be holding its second annual Healthiest State Initiative walk (the 'Start Somewhere' Walk) on Wednesday, October 3rd at Gillette Park by the Bacon Aquatic Center.
The event will start off with a free will donation healthy lunch being served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include a pork burger, apple slices, carrot slices and water.
At noon there will be a 1K group walk along the walking trail at Gillette Park. If you cannot make the walk at noon, feel free to come earlier or later and show your support for the Healthiest State Initiative.
All proceeds raised from the free will lunch will go towards the community walking and bike trail fund to help develop a continuous trail system throughout the city of Cherokee.
Everyone who participates is asked to pledge on the Healthiest State Initiative Website. If you don't get around to pledging, don't let that hold you back, simply show up at Gillette Park on Wednesday, October 3.
