River Valley plays in WVC Tourney

The River Valley girls varsity team went 1-4 at the recent Western Valley Conference Tournament.

The Wolverines' win was a 2-1 verdict over West Monona, while the team dropped 2-0 decisions to Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove, IKM-Manning, Woodbine and Kingsley-Pierson.

River Valley was led by Olivia Goettsch and Alysa Georgopoulos, who each had six kills in the win over West Monona. Goettsch also had five blocked shots in that match while Georgopoulos had four, and Jenna Knaack had six digs and was 13-14 serving wih 4 ace serves. Knacck also had 4 ace serves as part of a 10-10 performance in the loss to OA-BCIG.

Payton and Olivia Goettsch were each 4-4 serving against IKM-Manning, with Payton having two aces.

Jordain Volkert had an ace serve in the Woodbine match and against K-P, Knaack had three aces, Georgopoulos had two, and Olivia Goettsch had seven kills.

River Valley hitting leaders in the tournament included Alysa Georgeopoulos, Olivia Goettsch, and Jordain Volkert.

RV Serving leaders were Brianna Eades, Jenna Knaack, Olivia Goettsch, Volkert, and Payton Goettsch.

Pacing the Wolverines in digs were Eades, Knaack, Volkert, and Payton Goettsch.

RV Coach Pamela Frederiksen said, "The girls really started off strong with a big win. With the next few games, I felt the girls started making mistakes that the other teams were able to take advantage of. Now that we have a win and know what it feels like to win, I believe we will be picking up a few more down the road."

RV's season mark is now 2-20.
