CORRECTIONVILLE - Lawton-Bronson won five matches on their way to winning the invitational volleyball tournament here on Saturday, hosted by River Valley.
L-B won three game matches over Newell-Fonda (21-12,17-21,15-13) and host River Valley (19-21, 21-14, 15-12), and also beat Charter Oak-Ute, 21-7, 21-11, and Westwood, 21-7, 21-11, before defeating an Alta-Aurelia squad, 21-17, 21-14, for the championship.
The host River Valley team went 1-4 on the day, with their win coming against Charter Oak-Ute, by game scores of 21-13, 21-10.
RV Coach Pamela Frederiksen said, "I was so proud of the girls. We took one from L-B, then we lost focus for a few sets but finished the day strong by winning our last match against Charter Oak- Ute .
"We are improving and fixing problems as we move along through the season. We need to not be afraid to hit and make mistakes, just play with confidence."
In the Wolverines' win over CO-U, Olivia Goettsch had six kills and two blocks and Jenna Knaack was successful on 16 of her 17 serve attempts.
River Valley now has a 3-26 match record on the season.
Alta-Aurelia (15-16) won matches over Newell-Fonda (21-18, 19-21, 15-9), Charter Oak-Ute (21-10, 21-12), River Valley (21-16, 21-15) and Westwood (21-14, 21-14) on their way to the championship match with Lawton-Bronson.
Kelsi Snyder, Katie Turnquist and Tayler Rohwer led the A-A attack.
