David Rohwer of Cherokee was seriously injured in a fall at work on June 25, 2012, and he has been undergoing rehabilitation at a hospital in Chicago for several months.

David's father, Richard, is an elder at Careage Hills nursing home in Cherokee, and the staff there organized a benefit dinner and bake sale on September 23 to raise money to help defray expenses for David and his wife Sandy, who remain in Chicago.

On September 28th, the staff at Careage Hills presented Richard with a check for $4700, and arranged for him to call Sandy in Chicago, and give her the good news about the funds that were raised. A flabbergasted Sandy couldn't believe the large amount, and she was very thankful to all of the Careage Hills staff for all they have done for the family since the accident.
