PAULLINA - South O'Brien's Wolverines picked up their sixth win of the football season here on Friday, as they defeated the visiting North Union Warriors, 38-0.
Zach Nieman led all rushers with 20 carries for 161 yards and four touchdowns, and also scored a two-point conversion in the second quarter. Michael Callahan made 3 of 4 extra points and also chipped in with a 28-yard field goal. Kody Nelson completed 3-9 passes for 91 yards.
Nelson and Matt DeVos hooked up on a 27-yard pass to open the first quarter scoring, and DeVos ended the night with two catches for 60 yards. The other pass was a 31 yarder to Sam Weber.
Offensively, SOS was very physical up front and was able to pick up 297 yards on the ground. Austin Rohrs did a nice job of lead blocking from the fullback position, according to coach Mark Fuhrman.
Defensively, the Wolverines allowed 25 yards rushing on 28 carries and the visitors were 3-4 for one yard passing.
Coach Fuhrman said his team played a good all-around game and showed a great team effort. Austin Rohrs led the way on defense with six solo tackles and three assists. as well as a fumble recovery. Bryce Kelleher had three solos and two assists.
The Wolverines face a tough game at Emmetsburg Friday as the teams are both vying for the District lead with 6-1 records.
