Halloween Hike at Silver Sioux Recreation

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is hosting a Halloween Hike on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Silver Sioux Recreation Area. The night will be filled with activities for everyone from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The evening will begin with trick-or-treating in the campground from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The CCCB is hoping to fill the park on this crisp October evening by offering free camping that Saturday to those willing to hand-out candy to the little princesses, ghouls, and monsters.

Costumes and campsite decorating are encouraged.

For those looking for something a little more adventurous, the CCCB is teaming up with various 4-H volunteers to guide you on the haunted trail. Hop on the trail in the early evening for some sunlight, but bring a flashlight to help find your way on this moderately challenging hike when it gets dark.

Other activities will take place throughout the evening such as a treasure hunt (you'll need your trusty flashlight for this event) and a nocturnal animals program. A more detailed list of times and events will be released at a later date.

CCCB is looking for volunteers who are willing to help with the evening's activities. Please call or e-mail the office if you're interested. In the event of inclement weather, the Halloween Hike will be cancelled. Please dress for the weather.

A warm fire and hot beverages will be offered during this event as well. This event is free and open to the public.

Silver Sioux Recreation Area is located four miles northeast of Quimby off of Hwy 31. For more information contact the Cherokee County Conservation Board by calling 712-225-6709 or e-mailing cherokeeccb@gmail.com. Visit us online at their website, www.cherokeecountyparks.com, or on Facebook.
