The South O'Brien boys finished second behind champion Orange City Unity Christian in the boys varsity team standings, and Wolverine senior Luke Hoger finished 8th with a time of 18:56.7.
Zack Kellogg paced the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union team, which was without Roman Galles and Ben Brady for the meet, and didn't qualify for the team title. Kellogg placed 31st with a time of 22:13.0, and teammate Nathan Ruba was 35th, with a time of 22:14.9 . Mark Peters was 41st, in 24:24.4.
"The boys didn't run as well as we would have liked, but they ran hard." said MMC-RU coach Mark Fisher. " We were missing a couple guys, too. That would have helped out."
Fisher was pleased with Nicki Schwarz's 4th place finish behind three Unity Christian runners. "She ended up running her best time," Fisher said. "She broke 17 (minutes) for the first time in her career. That's what we have kind of been pushing her towards is trying to get into that 16-range so she can start moving towards state. It was good for her."
MMC-RU freshman Kayla Brady ran a 19:51.28 to place 18th in the girls varsity race, while senior teammate Sarah Bird was 24th, with a time of 20:46.79, and senior Kimberly Schroeder was 29th, with a time of 21:20.50.
