Potent HWC sweeps Cherokee VB

HULL - The young Cherokee volleyball team proved no match for the #2 rated Hull Western Christian Wolfpack here last week, succumbing 3-0 to the perennial Lakes Conference champs and defending state champions by game scores of 7-25, 9-25, 15-25.

Megan Hummel led Cherokee's serving effort with a 9-9 match and one ace, followed by Alexia Gerdes 5-6 and one ace, Maddy Woodall 5-6, and Sara Ramirez 4-5.

Gerdes led the washington High gals in hitting with 17-20 and four kills, while Brookelyn Hoeppner was 5-7 and four kills, and Kaely Hummel 5-6 and three kills.

Kaely Hummel led the team in digs with five, followed by Emily Haselhoff four, Megan Hummel three, and Woodall three.

Woodall paced Cherokee in setting with 42-48 and 11 assists. Gerdes registered three block assists, while Woodall recorded two, and Jasey Stowater, Hoeppner, and Kaely Hummel one apiece.

Cherokee plays in the Storm Lake Tournament Saturday to end regular season play.
