Friday is an early-out day for the Cherokee Community School District and will be used to send both the Washington High sophomore and junior students to Western Iowa Tech Community College for testing.
Sophomores will be taking the PLAN test. This test is a pretest for the ACTs, a college entrance exam. Students are tested for their knowledge base in Reading, English, Math and Science. They will also be given an interest inventory which will help them determine what careers might be the best match for them based on their personal interests.
Juniors will be taking the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This is a test developed and administered by the military. Besides using this as an entrance level score for military use, this test helps assess student aptitudes for different skills and can also be used to help determine careers that best suit individual students.
All students being tested at WITCC will be bused out to the campus at 8:15 a.m. and will be bused back to high school for lunch before 1p.m. dismissal. All students are advised to bring a calculator, two #2 pencils, and something to read between tests if needed.
