SIOUX CITY - The Ridge View Raptors played a couple of matches here last week, and the Raptors (27-4) came out on top in both of them.
The first match was with Siouxland Christian, and Ridge View prevailed by game scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-14. Ridge View coach Scott Mitchell said his team played very well throughout the evening, putting in a "very workmanlike" performance.
In the Siouxland Christian match, Ridge view was led by Gretchen Kistenmacher's 11 kills, while Nicole Snyder dished out 20 assists, Dana Hustedt had 14 digs, and Jayde Vondrak blocked two shots.
In its other match, the Raptors swept West Monona, 25-14, 25-21. Kistenmacher had seven kills to lead the Raptirs' attack and Snyder had 11 assists. Anna Davis had 14 digs and Vondrak blocked four shots.
On Thursday, Ridge View traveled to Ida Grove for a Western Valley Conference match against Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove, and the team swept the Falcons 3-0 on game scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-21. Kistenmacher had 13 kills in this match and Kaitlynn Madsen was also in double figures with 10 kills. Nicole Snyder dished out 22 assists and Emily Forristal had 15; Dana Hustedt and Anna Davis both hit double figures in digs, with Hustedt having 12 and Davis 10; Kaitlynn Madsen had five blocks; and Davis, with three and Snyder, with two, had five ace serves between them.
Coach Mitchell said his team played well overall, and the hitters "did a nice job of putting the ball away."
The Raptors did have some lapses, though, said Mitchell, where they failed to communicate on the court, and didn't always play good defense. His concern for upcoming tournament games is that the team eliminates unforced errors.
The Ridge View freshman and JV teams each won their matches 3-0, leaving them with final season records of 26-4 (JV) and 15-7 (freshmen).
The Ridge View varsity team starts down the tournament trail on October 23rd when they have a Class 2A Regional matchup at Schaller, against the winner of a first-round game between Alta-Aurelia and Sioux Central at Alta this Wednesday.
