Friday, October 26, 2012

PAULLINA - The South O'Brien football team took on Manson Northwest Webster here in first round Class 1-A playoff action on Wednesday night, and Coach Mark Fuhrman's Wolverines rolled up 230 yards on the ground on their way to an impressive 34-12 win.

South O'Brien's Zach Nieman handled the bulk of the Wolverines' ground attack, carrying the ball 28 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns, but Austin Rohrs chipped in with 44 yards on nine carries, and he, too, scored twice.

Quarterback Kody Nelson only went to the air five times on the brisk fall evening, completing one of the aerials, to Matt DeVos, for a nine-yard gain. Brett Puhrmann scored the other Wolverine TD on a nifty 65-yard punt return, and Michael Callahan booted a field goal as well as one extra point, to round out South O'Brein's scoring for the evening.

Rohrs paced the SOS defense with 14 tackles, folowed by Bryce Kelleher with eight, DeVos seven, and Gunner Klinker and Jon Zubrod six apiece. Sam Weber had a pass interception for the winners, and Nelson recovered a fumble.

The Wolverines take an excellent 8-2 season record into their next playoff game against undefeated IKM-Manning (10-0) Monday night in Manning.
