Friday, October 26, 2012

NEWELL - River Valley faced a tough first-round opponent in the 8-player football playoffs Wednesday night, as they took on undefeated and #1 ranked Newell-Fonda on the Mustangs' home field.

The Wolverines were up for the challenge, though, and hung tough before falling to the Mustangs by a final score of 45-12.

RV's standout junior quarterback Brennam Riedemann put together another outstanding performance in facing a formidable foe, as he completed 18 of his 27 pass attempts for 164 yards - including a 51-yard touchdown pass to junior Parker Goettsch - and didn't have any of his passes intercepted.

Riedemann also ran the ball 35 times for 130 yards and one 10-yard touchdown Josh Pansegrau led the Wolverines' receiving corps with 10 grabs for 44 yards, and sophomore Sam Briese caught four passes for 44 yards.

Parker Goettsch led the RV defensive effort, being in on 10 total tackles, while sophomores Jimmy Cockburn and Jordan Droegmiller were each involved in seven total tackles, and Hunter Casey registered six.

River Valley finishes its season with a 4-6 record.
