After preschool story time recently, the mothers and I were discussing the month of November. We all agreed that there are lots of Halloween and Christmas songs to go along with those holidays, but there weren't very many for Thanksgiving. The only one I could think of was "Over the River and Through the Woods." How about you? Can you think of any Thanksgiving songs?
We also talked about upcoming events at the library. I mentioned that our November newsletter was ready to take home and that we had some new library programs they might like to check out.
The next Terrific Toddlers will meet Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. This program is for children ages 1-3 and their parents. There will be stories, singing, dancing, finger plays, and rhymes. It's also a great chance to spend time with your child/children and get acquainted with other parents and their children. Hope to see you then. This group meets one Saturday out of each month.
"N" is for November and "N" is for New. One of the new programs the library is offering this month is for adults. The Apron Lady will be at the library on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 1 p.m. -- 2 p.m. She bill bring back memories of days of old and has lots of aprons for one to behold. Come upstairs to the children's department and join us for some apron fun!
Another new program at the library is Family Story Hour which will be Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6:30 p.m. -- 7:30 p.m. We had the first Family Story Hour last month and it was a hit. So we will be having another one this month. Check out Facebook on our Cherokee Public Library site to see children lasso'ing the moon and having fun getting ready for bed. There will be a bedtime snack, stories, games, and a craft. I'm looking forward to see who will win the Silly Dance Contest. See you then.
Kindergarten -- 6th grade students here's a program just for you. We will stuff a turkey, have a Thanksgiving snack, make a Thanksgiving craft, and play a little Thanksgiving bingo on Monday, November 19 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Students need to ride the IC bus to the library.
As usual, the Preschool Story Time for 3 -- 5 year-olds will meet every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. -- 11 a.m. We will learn to talk like turkeys, hear turkey and Thanksgiving stories, sing songs, and do Thanksgiving crafts.
Don't forget we have new computer games for children who don't have permission to be on the internet.
Sunday is Veteran's Day. If you know a veteran or active military person please take the time to tell them thank you for their service. The library will be open on Monday, Nov. 12.
