The Cherokee County Legacy Foundation has received $94,468.98 from the County Endowment Fund to be granted to local organizations for 2013.
Grant applications may be picked up at the Iowa State Extension Office starting on Monday, Dec. 3. The extension office will also have the application on their website; www.extension.iastate.edu/cherokee/.
After entering their website, search for Cherokee County Legacy Foundation and the application will be available as a .pdf file. Applications for this grant-cycle are due Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at the Iowa State Extension office.
The County Endowment Fund program began in 2005 through a percentage of the commercial gaming tax revenues given to the counties in Iowa that do not have gaming revenues. Since, 2005, the CCLF has given out almost $500,000 to over 100 organizations throughout Cherokee county.
Last year the foundation received a record number of applications. The board encourages organizations that did not receive grant money last year to reapply this year, if the purpose or need is still relevant. The key highlight of last year's cycle was the granting to every fire department in the county.
