All about family

Friday, November 9, 2012

Harry Jr. and Nancy Brutsman sit in front of the hand-crafted fireplace in the old Cherokee Yacht Club with Yacht Club Committee Co-Chair Sheree Hausmann, left. The Brutsmans recently donated $1000 in memory of the late Harry Brutsman Sr., who served as the Koser Spring Lake Park Custodian from 1960 until his retirement in 1986. Harry Sr. found his work as custodian to be interesting, rewarding and much like running a small farm. Harry Sr. started work at 7 a.m. and didn't stop until dark, although his hours were officially from 8-5. In the winter months, busloads of kids would come out to the park for ice skating during their P.E. classes. During Christmas break, it was not unusual for 100 kids a day to be skating on Spring Lake. Harry Jr. grew up in the house that later became the Yacht Club ,and he has many fond memories of the little house at the park that is now being razed. Photo contributed
