Coach David Nash's Mustang men qualified for the nationals as a team for the first time in school history. No. 21 Morningside finished second at last Saturday's Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships.
Taylor Chapman, a junior from Spencer, and Jay Welp, formerly from Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, had already qualified for the NAIA meet with their Top 10 finishes at the GPAC Championships, where all five Morningside runners at the meet who figured in the team standings finished in the Top 20 -- Chapman (2nd), Welp (10th), Garret Ehlers of Ida Grove (12th),
Mark Abrams (14th), and Monte Larsen (17th).
