AURELIA - At a Special Meeting of the Aurelia Community School District Board of Directors Monday evening, following a public hearing on the matter, the Board approved a resolution for the District to continue its participation in the Instructional Support Program (ISP) , determining that continued participation was consistent with the five- year finance plan to fund the ongoing programs and services of the School District, and in the best interest of the district, as provided in Iowa Code, sections 257.18 through 257.21.
The additional funding will be determined annually, and will not exceed 10% of the total regular program district cost for the budget year. Monies received by the District for the Instructional Support Program may be used for any general fund purpose, and the ISP shall be funded by instructional support state aid and a combination of an ISP property tax and an instructional support income surtax, to be imposed upon the state income tax of each individual income taxpayer resident of the school district.
The resolution is considered final, and a certified copy will be directed to the Department of Management unless the Board Secretary receives a petition within 28 days which contains the signatures of eligible electors equal in number to not less than 100 or 35% of the number of voters at the last preceding school election, whichever is greater, asking that an election be called to approve or disapprove the action of the Board.
If such a petition is received, the Board would meet to either consider rescission of the resolution or direct the county commissioner of elections to call a special election on the matter.
