Four Cherokee County Residents were elected to the Cherokee County Extension Council in the Nov. 6th General Election. They are Chuck Clark, 800 W Bluff St; Barb Kindwall, 5228 Crest Dr; and Donna Kohn, 5678 J Ave, all of Cherokee, and David Whited , 591 500th St, Marcus.
Clark and Whited are current members of the council who were re-elected to four-year terms, and Kindwall and Kohn are new members who will join the council in January 2013 .
The new members will replace Tom Bindner, 5838 D Ave, Marcus and Lynn Winterhof, 5679 Y Ave, Aurelia. In addition to the four candidates elected to four year terms, Myron Pingel, 400 Warrior St, Cherokee was appointed on October 25, 2012 to complete the remaining two years of Eric Ogren's term, which will expire in 2014.
Carryover council members whose terms expire at the end of 2014 are Nathan Foresman, 5806 J Ave, Cherokee and Gina Rassel, 408 W Cedar St, Marcus. Council members elected in November will begin their terms in January and the council will meet in early January to elect officers.
The Extension Council is the county governing body of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Council members hire county staff, manage the county extension budget of approximately $230,000, and help determine programming, said Chuck Clark, Extension Council Chairperson. The county extension office is located at 209 Centennial Dr in Cherokee.
