Monday, November 19, 2012

DES MOINES -- Recently, Senate Republicans met at the Capitol and elected leadership for the 85th General Assembly, which will convene on January 14, 2013. Senator Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) was elected as a Senate Republican Assistant Leader.

Sen. Randy Feenstra
"I think we've put sound leaders in place for the upcoming legislative session," said Sen. Bill Dix (R-Shell Rock), who was elected as Senate Republican Leader. "I look forward to serving the state in the Republican leadership role and know that our job is just beginning. We will work to enact meaningful legislation that will grow jobs and the economy."

Feenstra, recently reelected, was first elected to the Iowa Legislature in 2008, and served on the Ways and Means, State Government, Commerce, and Education Committees.

"Senate Republicans want to reign in government, help Iowans keep more of their hard-earned dollars and put Iowans back to work. I know we can work to accomplish this during the 2013 Legislative Session," said Feenstra.

Senator Rick Bertrand (Sioux City) will serve as the Senate Republican Whip while Senators Roby Smith (Davenport), Joni Ernst (Red Oak), Tim Kapucian (Keystone), and David Johnson (Ocheyedan) were elected as Assistant Leaders.
