SIOUX RAPIDS - The South O'Brien girls overcame a slow start and a 12-8 first quarter deficit to take a 28-25 halftime lead over host Sioux Central here in their season opener last Friday. The Wolverines increased their lead to 47-35 after three, then hung on as the Rebels put up 20 points in the final quarter, but were unable to overcome South O'Brien's double digit lead. South O'Brien won the non-conference contest by a score of 59-55.
Rachel Struve led the Wolverines with 19 points, and the junior also grabbed an impressive 20 rebounds. Hannah Schueder and Leta Wester each scored 11 for SOS, and Emma Sweeney's 10 points gave the Wolverines four double digit scorers, all of them from the junior class.
Hallie Ehlers led Sioux Central with 18 points, and Taylor Fahlander added a dozen of her own.
