Tackling the job problem

In these tough economic times one of the interesting situational contradictions that is present is a high unemployment rate while at the same time companies have jobs going vacant because they are unable to obtain qualified applicants.

We are promoting several initiatives to tackle this problem and I will speak to these in the next several articles to appear in this column.

This week we unveil a new option on our website www.cherokeeia.com. You may know that our website contains a great deal information about the county and many of you visit the "Events Calendar" on the site to keep abreast of all activities in the County. One new feature is "Search our Job Listings" tab near the bottom of the Homepage. For job seekers this tab will take you to listing of jobs available in Cherokee County. For Companies looking to hire they can post the job openings that they have available on the site.

We encourage our local companies to contact us to acquire a login and password first. It's simple to operate and fill in the information to post jobs and they will automatically be removed after a time frame that the business specifies.

While you are on the site, check out the link to the new video about Cherokee County right above the Jobs link. Or check out the link below the Jobs link to visit our Facebook page. While you are there don't forget to "friend" us.

We are here to serve the business community and we hope the new feature will help connect workers and businesses. Good luck in your search. We'll have more next week on this issue.
