ALTA - The East Sac County girls led all the way as they rolled to a 57-43 Twin Lakes Conference win over Alta-Aurelia here on Saturday.
Christena Heschke led the Warrior scoring with 14 points, while Val Hernandez and Tyler Rohwer each grabbed five rebounds for Coach Rory Payne's Alta-Aurelia squad, and Hernandez and Steph Robbins each dished out four assists.
Defensively, Hernandez, Katie Turnquist and Jenna Snyder each had two steals .
The East Sac County boys jumped out to a 10-point lead after one quarter, then added to their lead throughout the game, as they defeated the Alta-Aurelia boys in the nightcap by a score of 61-30.
Reed Tellinghuisen scored 17 points to lead East Sac and teammate Tyler Jacobsen also hit in double figures, scoring 12 points.
Jayden Van Berkum led the Warriors with seven points, while Mitchel McDonald, Jayson Van Haaften and Zach Sliefert each scored six. Ross Friedrich had six rebounds, four assists and two steals, and McDonald added seven rebounds.
Alta-Aurelia Coach Randy Bissen commented, "Hats off to East Sac County. They shot the ball well and have a real nice player in Tellinghuisen. We knew we were going to have to take care of the basketball and make some shots to compete. Unfortunately, our turnovers led to layups on the other end. We are inexperienced, but we will continue to get better. I love the fight in our kids."
