Gehlen girls bounce youthful MMC

MARCUS - The undefeated Le Mars Gehlen girls jumped out to a 24-11 halftime lead on the way to a convincing 47-22 War Eagle Conference basketball win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here Friday night.

Katelin Langel led the winning Jays with 21 points, and Hannah Sitzmann added 12. Alison Schnepf paced the winners on the boards with 10 rebounds, while Langel grabbed eight.

Gehlen sank 20-54 field goals for 37 percent, and converted 5-15 free throws.

Freshman Sarah Dreckman led the youthful MMC gals with seven points, and Alisson Meehan pocketed eight rebounds to lead the Eagles in that category. Drekman also paced her team in steals with five.

MMC made just 9-53 shots for an icy 17 percent shooting effort, and cashed in 4-7 free throws.

The MMC teams travel to Trinity Christian in Hull Thursday night.
