SIOUX CITY - The Ridge View boys eked out a 55-52 basketball victory over Siouxland Community Christian here Monday night after staking out a tenuous 38-30 lead heading into the final quarter, thanks to a 14-7 scoring run in the deciding third period.
The Raptors of first-year coach Ken Slater parlayed a balanced scoring attack in the win, led by Joe Tokheim's 12 points, 10 by Zach Tokheim, and seven apiece by Ryan Garthoff and Daniel Jeckell.
Ridge View sank 20-43 field goals for a warm 47 percent, and made 13-20 free throws.
Zach Tokheim paced the winners on the boards with seven rebounds, and Jeckell grabbed six. Joe Tokheim managed five steals to lead that category and Garthoff tallied three assists in the game.
"They had a couple players who were very tough to guard and made some bombs on us that kept them in the game," explained Slater, the former Ridge View girls basketball coach.
"Thankfully, we built a pretty good lead in the third quarter when one of them was on the bench with foul trouble. I was proud how our guys stepped up at the end and made some crucial free throws to get us the win."
