CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley girls struggled offensively against Western Valley Conference rival Whiting on Tuesday, failing to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Fortunately for the Wolverines, their opponent only managed three points themselves in that first period, so the game was well wihin reach. Whiting still held the lead at half, 13-8, and extended that lead to 22-9 heading into the final quarter. At game's end, Whiting came out on top by a 35-16 score.
Bailey Fitch and Olivia Goettsch each scored three points for River Valley and Goettsch led the team on the boards with six rebounds, while Carley Burke had six and Alison Brown five.
'Our defensive effort was great," said Wolverine coach Matt Jenness. "We were able to slow Shelby Rodman (7 points) down and that isn't easy to do. We just aren't quite there offensively. We just have to keep getting better every practice and every game. If we continue to play defense like tha,t we will have more chances as the season goes on."
The Wolverines travel to Manning on Saturday to take on IKM- Manning, which is ranked #2 in the state in Class 2A.
