REMSEN - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys overcame a 14-7 first quarter deficit, then outscored Remsen-Union in the second half on their way to a 53-49 War Eagle Conference win on Tuesday.
Dylan Spieler led the Eagles' effort with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 boards. He also had three assists, three steals, and blocked two shots.Tyler Prunty came close to double-double status himself, as he scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
MMC coach Mark Fisher felt his team played hard and rebounded well. MMC cleared 39 rebounds to the Rockets' 27.
Coach Fisher also thought the Eagles settled down a litlte bit in the second half and ran their offense a little better. "Defensively, once we settled into our game plan and started to play harder, we did really well," he said. "It was not a pretty win, but it's a win. And I always say I'd rather learn things, find things out, and work to get better while winning.
"We are not a very good team right now, but we are playing hard, we're competing, and we have a bunch of guys that want to learn and get better and that is going to help lead us to a lot of wins. As the year plays on, we will become a very good team."
