Remsen-Union trips young MMC girls, 50-31

REMSEN - The Remsen-Union girls outscored youthful Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in every quarter on the way to a convincing 50-31 War Eagle Conference basketball victory here Tuesday night.

Alissa McDermott led the MMC Eagles with 15 points, while Sarah Dreckman chipped in six in the losing effort. McDermott also led MMC in steals with four.

Sarah Bird and Heather Hoefling paced MMC on the boards with six rebounds apiece, and Nicki Schwarz grabbed four.

The Eagles sank 12-55 field goals for a cold 22 percent and cashed in 5-10 free throws. The Rockets made 22-52 shots for 42 percent, and drained just 6-22 free throws.

Brittany Sudtelgte paced R-U scoring with a game-high 19 points, and Brittany Weikel added eight. Sudtelgte also let her team on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Remsen-Union led 22-14 at halftime and went on a 14-7 scoring run in the third frame to take a 36-21 bulge heading into the final quarter.
