An Open House and membership sign-up has been planned for Saturday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H Expo Center on the Cherokee County Fairgrounds for those interested in seeing the facility, asking questions, and/or purchasing a membership for open riding.
It's been a long journey since the 4-H Betterment Project Committee began the initial planning for this facility. There were some unexpected set-backs, but the Expo Center is now ready to be used for year-round horseback riding and other events.
The membership fee is $100 per individual or family and runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of 2013. Those purchasing a membership now will be able to use the facility during December at no additional charge.
A membership will allow access to the indoor arena for open riding unless the facility is booked for a 4-H or other event. A website is being developed that will include a calendar of events that members will be able to check to see when the arena is available for open riding.
A Facebook page is operational now. It can be found by searching for "Cherokee County 4-H Expo Center."
Membership fees will help cover the costs of utilities, insurance, routine building maintenance, and future improvements. There will be no charge to county 4-H clubs who would like to use the Expo Center for scheduled events.
Membership information and forms can also be secured by contacting Sue Schwaller, at 225-2885 or by emailing CherokeeExpoCenter@gmail.com.
