MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys thumped West Sioux, 59-30, in War Eagle Conference basketball action here on Tuesday.
Dylan Spieler led the Eagles' scoring with 12 points, and the junior also grabbed seven rebounds, had four steals and blocked four shots. Senior Nate Rassel scored 10 points and also grabbed 10 boards, for a "double-double" night. Fellow senior Andrew Hoefling grabbed 11 rebounds, to go along with his seven points.
MMC coach Mark Fisher said, " We really emphasized effort tonight, and I thought we got that for some good spurts tonight. We were really disapointed in our effort the last game, and I think we came out flat for the first two minutes of this game as well. But (then) the guys really stepped up and played hard."
Coach Fisher added that he was able to go a little deeper into his rotation Tuesday night "to keep guys fresh and working hard." He also felt that the team did a great job on the defensive end, holding them to nine field goals - only three of them inside of the three point line.
He also felt they did a great job of keeping West Sioux off the free-throw line, committing only seven fouls in the first three quarters. Offensively, he said, the team started to execute better, but he added that the team needs to "work on finishing and being strong with the ball."
Overall, the coach felt it was "a good win."
The Eagles (3-1) travel to Akron on Friday to take on Akron-Westfield in a conference match-up.
