ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boys lost a tight basketball match-up with Twin Lakes Conference rival Laurens-Marathon here on Tuesday by a final score of 48-45.
The game was close throughout the first half, but the Chargers poured 21 points through the net in the 3rd quarter to open up an 11- point lead. The Warriors bounced back in the final period, but couldn't quite close the gap.
Mitchel McDonald had a double-double night for Alta-Aurelia, as he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jason Van Haaften scored nine points and had seven boards, while Zach Sliefert had seven points and six rebounds. Colton Ballantyne scored six points for the Warriors, and Ross Friedrich dished out five assists and had two steals.
Alta-Aurelia coach Randy Bissen said, "It was a hard fought battle. Our effort was good - we just have to communicate and complete more plays. We had too many turnovers again, and a lot of those led to easy baskets in transition."
On a positive note, the coach gave credit to his players for their effort in battling back from a steep deficit to almost pull the game out.
