AKRON - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys grabbed the lead in the first quarter and increased it throughout the game as they breezed to a 68-33 War Eagle Conference win over host Akron-Westfield here on Friday.
The Eagles were led by junior Dylan Spieler, who scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Ben Specht, with 13 points and Nate Rassel, with 10, joined their teammate in the double digit scoring category, and Tyler Prunty also grabbed nine rebounds. Spieler stole seven passes and Specht had four assists for the Eagles,
now 4-1 on the season.ow 4-1.3
Eagle coach Mark Fisher said, "I thought we got off to a slow start tonight, but I also think a lot of that was a product of what Akron-Westfield was doing. They gave us some problems in the first 10-12 minutes.
"I thought we made some good adjustments as the game went on, and I thought our guys did an exceptional job of hanging in there and executing those adjustments. Our effort was much better tonight and we really battled on defense, especially in the second half. Offensively, we missed some open shots we would normally make and we struggled a little with our execution at times, but we hung in there and made plays when we needed to."
