ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia girls lost a couple of competitive basketball games over the weekend.
On Friday the Warriors dropped a 49-39 decision to Twin Lakes Conference foe Prairie Valley. The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter, Prairie took a four-point lead at the half, and Alta-Aurelia trailed by six heading into the 4th quarter before the game ended with the final 10-point difference.
Two Warriors, seniors Taler Stanton and Katie Turnquist, each scored in double figures, with Stanton netting 11 points and Turnquist 10. Stanton actually had a double-double night, as she had a dozen rebounds to her stat line.She and Steph Robbins each dished out three assists as well.
On Saturday, the Warriors traveled to Hartley to face Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in a non-conference game, and the Warriors led the contest at the half, 18-15. HMS jumped to a 30-24 lead after three and the Hawks held on for a final 43-35 win.
Freshman Micah Barnes scored 11 points to lead the Warrior scoring, and she was joined by Tayler Rohwer, who netted three treys for nine points. Barnes and Taler Stanton each pulled down seven rebounds for the Warriors, and Steph Robbins and Stanton each stole two passes.
The Warriors (2-7) will return to play after the Christmas break with a January 4, 2013 game at SE Grand of Burnside.
