Supervisors approve Amended Budget

Thursday, December 27, 2012

At Monday's meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors, a public hearing was held on the proposed 2012/2013 Budget amendment. There being no objections raised, the Budget amendment was approved.

The Supervisors also signed a form authorizing the County Auditor to pay a one-time reimbursement to the Sheriff's Department for meal expenses which exceeded the maximum $24/day meal expenses as stated in the county policy .

Todd Wetherell, representing the city of Cleghorn, presented a resolution (#2012-14) authorizing the city of Cleghorn to construct a public sign. The electronic sign, directing people into the city, will be placed south of Highway 3 on private property south of the city limits. The city has committed to paying all of the expenses associated with constructing and maintaining said sign, and the city has approved entering into easement agreements with property owners for said sign.

The resolution was passed, approved and adopted.

County Engineer Dave Shanahan presented a Utility Permit for Iowa Lakes Regional Water to do underground construction on the county road right-of-way. The 1.5 inch water service line will be installed by boring to serve 2205 480th Street. The line will be located under 480th Street in Section 3 of Afton Township and Section 34 of Spring Township. The permit was approved.

GIS/IT Coordinator Lindsay Bressler appeared before the Supervisors to discuss the renewal of the maintenance contract with Scott Telephone. Bressler said Scott had assessed the county's phone system, and they have recommended that the county start phasing out the 13-year-old phones and replacing them with newer models.

No action was taken at Monday's meeting. Since the cost of this recommendation will result in a projected cost of as much as $20,000, it was felt that it was best to hold off any decisions on this matter until the new Board of Supervisors is sworn in at the January 2, 2013 meeting.

The FY2014 Budget Process was discussed. No departments have submitted requests for amendments to their department's proposed budget.

The next meeting of the Supervisors will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, and will begin with the swearing-in of the three new Supervisors - Ginger Walker, Dennis Bush and Rick Mongan - at 8:45 a.m.
