Here is a reminder to the citizens of Cherokee regarding the City of Cherokee Snow Ordinances.
Section 136.03 of the city code regarding the removal of snow, ice and accumulations:
It is the responsibility of the abutting property owners to remove snow, ice and accumulations promptly from sidewalks.
If a property owner does not remove snow, ice or accumulations within a reasonable time, hereby designated to be within 24 hours of the accumulation of snow or ice, the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax.
The minimum charge if the City clears your sidewalk is $150.
Section 69.12 regarding a snow emergency states:
No person except physicians or other persons on emergency calls shall park a vehicle on any street or alley between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. whenever these is two inches or more of snow on the streets.
Fine is $25.
Section 69.13 of the city code regarding emergency snow removal routes:
From Oct. 1 of each year until the first day of the following April, there shall be no parking on the Emergency Snow Removal Routes, from 2 a.m. until 7 a.m.
The Emergency Snow Removal Routes are as follows:
1. Willow Street from 1st Street to 6th Street
2. Main Street from 1st Street to 6th Street
3. Maple Street from 1st Street to 4th Street
4. 4th Street from Willow Street to Maple Street
5. 1st Street from Willow Street to Main Street
6. 2nd Street from Willow Street to Maple Street
The penalty for violation of this section shall be a fine of $25. Vehicles in violation of this section are further subject to the impoundment procedures contained in Section 70.06 of the city code.
