Private family visitation and sharing of memories will be held at the Boothby Funeral Home from 9:30 - 11 a.m. on Saturday December 29th. Delores was born on June 7, 1937 at Lyons, Nebraska, to Richard Pounds jr. and Lena (Breault) Pounds. She graduated from Bronson (Ia.) High School in 1954, and was married to Donald E. Short in Bronson on May 6, 1956. She lived in Cabot, Arkansas and Grand Forks, North Dakota prior to moving to Cherokee in 1976. Delores worked at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee from 1968 until 1983. From 1983 until 1988, she and her husband traveled cross country in the Boogie Machine delivering goods and visiting family and friends. She loved bowling, playing the slot machines and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, and was an avid sports fan, watching the Hawkeyes, Raiders, Lakers and Yankees.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald on October 8, 1988, and her son, Donald Short, jr. She is survived by her children, Diana (Robert) Jackson of Tacoma, Washington; Denise (Jay) Freeman of LaPlatte, Maryland; Delia (Charles) Edwards of Westby, North Dakota; and Darrell (Shellie) Short of Cherokee; a daughter-in-law, Dina Short of Phillips, Maine; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her siblings, Violet )Herman) Thomas of Sioux City; Connie (Pat) Kenney of Leeds; Joyce Renkin of LeMars; Larry (Pat) Smith of Sioux City; Carol (Larry) Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska; John (Cindy) Searls of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
