Douglas Allen Seel, 58, of Cherokee, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center due to a heart condition.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Doug was born September 30, 1954 at the family farm near Marcus. He attended Marcus Schools and Washington High School in Cherokee, graduating in 1974. He had worked at Lubeck Oil Co., Wetherell Manufacturing Co. in Cleghorn, Carey's Restaurant and the Family Table Restaurant in Cherokee. He also operated a stained glass business for a number of years, retiring in September of 2012 due to health problems. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus and currently member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He enjoyed Beatles memorabilia, cars, motorcycles, going to B.V. Raceway in the summer, creating stain glass windows and especially looking after and caring for his mother.

He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Seel, paternal grandparents Adam and Agnes Seel, maternal grandparents John & Charlotte "Lottie" Harms, brothers-in-law Ed Norell and Steve Colvert, two nieces Kimberly & Melissa Colvert.

He is survived by his mother Evelyn Seel of Cherokee; two sons; Chad Seel and his wife Tinesha Loucks Seel and their daughter Charlotte Seel of Bastrop, Texas; Nicholas Seel of Cherokee; his siblings Darlene Norell of LeMars; Donna Colvert of Cherokee; Dennis (Debbie) Seel of LaVerne, Calif.; four nieces and one nephew: Jennie Raine and her children Rob and his son Noah, Ryan, Alex and Katie; Julie Hatfield and her children Stephanie, Shay and Cody; Chris (Geoff) Kling and their children Steven and Andrew; Matt Colvert; Amy (Brian) Hellewell and their children Kaili and Braden.
