Funeral services for Lorrene Mason, age 91, of Carroll were held Friday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Services were also be be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn. Pastors Dave and Sue Rauch officiated both services. Interment was in the Meriden Cemetery at Meriden.
Lorrene E. (Drefke) Mason was born to William and Inez Larson Drefke on June 14, 1921, at Meriden. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1939. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and taught school in Nemaha, Meriden, Cleghorn and Cherokee. She loved teaching and being with the students.
In July of 1943, she was married to her grade school sweetheart, Lyle Mason. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Jean and Jim, both deceased, and Tim.
Lorrene was a very active home maker and loved the farm and people connected with farming, belonging to several farm organizations. She was a devoted member of the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school for many years.
Lyle and Lorrene managed the campground in Storm Lake for six years and also wintered in Texas for 16 years. They loved round and square dancing and playing the card game "Hand and Foot."
Lorrene moved to Carroll in December of 2006 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law and their families. She has been a resident of Swan House and SunnyBrook Assisted Living.
Lorrene was preceded in death by her husband Lyle in March of 2007, her daughter Jean in March of 2007, her son James Lee in 1956, her parents and her brother Melbourne.
Survivors include, Her son Tim Mason and wife Jacquie of Carroll; four grandchildren: Brian and Tricia Wolterman of Audubon and Jeremy and Tami Mason of Grimes; and six great grandchildren: Kyra, Grace and Olivia Wolterman and Sierra, Malaki and Micah Mason.
