Morrow, Rosewall win wrestling titles

ALTA - The busy Cherokee Braves wrestlers featured two champions and three runners-up at Saturday's Alta-Aurelia Wrestling Invitational here.

Claiming titles in their respective weight classes were Hunter Morrow at 126 pounds, and Micheal Rosewall at 285.

Seconmd-place finishes went to Drake Bechtel at 106, Luke Ziemen at 160, and Mason Meitzenheimer at 170.

Morrow pinned Eric Wedemeyer of Manson NW Webster JV in :57, and pinned Jordan Rozenboom of Manson NW Webster in 5:47 for his title.

Rosewall pinned Neal Felton of Alta-Aurelia in 2:29, [inned Phil Dorage of Manson NW Webster JV in :38, and pinned Nathan Myrice of Ridge View in 2:36 to claim his title.

Bechtel pinned Colten Larson of Alta-Aurelia in 3:19, and was pinned by Chase Bulten of Manson NW Webster in 1:36 for his runner-up finish.

Ziemen pinned Manuel Murrillo of Alta-Aurelia in 3:37, and lost 9-1 to Lucas Dolder of Manson NW Webster for his runner-up finish.

Meitzenheimer beat Tyler Pickhinke of Ridge View 16-4, and lost 20-4 to Jackson Rosenthal of Alta-Aurelia for his second-place finish.

Also for Cherokee, Andy Pitts at 138 pounds, Derek Bechtel at 182, and Skyler Mongan at 195 each placed fourth after after posting 1-2 match records on the day.

Cherokee's Christian Lundy was fifth at 132, also with a 1-2 match record in the tournament. Alex Sordrager also wrestled for the Braves at 220 pounds, but did not place.

The Braves had four open weights, costing them valuable team points in the competition.

Manson NW Webster won the team crown with 247 points, followed by Ridge View 183, Alta-Aurelia 150.5, Cherokee 135, Akron-Westfield 130, Manson NW Webster JV 63, Ridge View JV 37, West Bend-Mallard/GCB 15.5, Alta-Aurelia JV 3.

"Saturday was another great day of wrestling for the Cherokee Braves," noted Cherokee coach Austin Todd. " We had many wrestlers wrestle up to or above their seed in the tournament.

"Mason Meitzenhimer was able to display his wrestling skills as he finished in second place. Drake Bechtel and Luke Ziemen were also able to earn a second-place finish. Champions in the day were Hunter Morrow and Micheal Rosewall who both pinned their opponent in the finals.

"I was very pleased with how we finished, especially since we have seemed to be bitten by the injury bug and were down a few wrestlers."

The Braves compete in a double dual at Ridge View in Holstein Thursday night, also featuring Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. Action starts at 6 p.m.
